Harvey J. Edel, age 89, of Kilkenny died on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Mayo Health System, St. Mary’s Campus, Rochester.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2020 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services in the church.
Burial will be held at Trebon Cemetery in Shieldsville Township, Kilkenny.
The family will be honoring his legacy as a farmer by having a drive-by around his farmstead before the burial.
Harvey was born on February 8, 1931 to James E. and Anna (Viskocil) Edel.
Harvey was the beloved husband of Harriet (Schrom) Edel. Harvey and Harriet were great supporters for each other. They worked well together and loved each other dearly for 63 years.
He served for the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, and was a lifelong member of the VFW, Eagles, and Knights of Columbus.
Harvey also gave many years to the Rice County Pork Producers.
He proudly earned the honor of owning and operating a Century Farm in 2014, which was a worthy achievement for his many years carefully raising dairy cattle, beef cattle, hogs, and crops.
Harvey was a skilled self-employed butcher and meat cutter.
During his time off he enjoyed working outside on the land that he owned, operating heavy equipment, working on projects, and helping his family, friends, and neighbors.
His hobbies included singing, dancing, playing cards, fishing, and sharing jokes with friends and family. He was extremely dedicated to his family and instilled lifelong lessons of love and kinship to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Kevin (Beth) Edel of Chandler, AZ, Kim (Terry) Mosel of Page, NE, Karla Janovsky of Montgomery; grandchildren, Sheena, Courtney, and Shelby Edel, Amos, Caleb, Luke, Mark, and Simeon Mosel, Lindy Flynn, Kelsey Dickison, and Jesse Janovsky; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being completed by the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault.
