For the past 30 years Norm and Carol Linnell have attended St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Le Center. This year, they’ll be leading it.
On Sunday afternoon at the Le Center American Legion Post 108, the Le Center St. Patrick’s Day Committee announced that the 2019 Grand Marshals will be Norm and Carol (Claffey) Linnell.
The couple currently resides in Hudson, Wisconsin, but Carol went to high school in Le Center and the two of them have come to town every year for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
“It’s a great honor” to be chosen as grand marshals, Carol said. “We love the community and love our family.”
“It’s definitely an honor to be asked,” Norm said.
But they weren’t the only ones celebrated at the brunch.
The new Miss Shamrock Queen candidates were also part of the festivities. This year, there are seven candidates vying for the position: Destiny Dunagan, Grace Vollmer, Leah Powers, Megan Wagner, Julia McCabe, Lizzie Christian and Anna Holden.
The candidates got the chance to introduce themselves and meet as many people from the community as possible all while serving them a brunch of frittatas, sausage patties and various scones and rolls.
The event was also a celebration of last year’s marshals and queens as they came out to honor the newcomers and announce the end of their reign
