One person was arrested Monday night after a police pursuit started near Faribault and ended in Northfield.
According to Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson, a vehicle pursuit was initiated near Faribault and continued on Interstate 35 north and then into Dundas with Faribault Police, Rice County Sheriff’s Office, and Dundas Police taking part. Stop sticks were deployed near Dundas and the vehicle eventually stopped near Hwy. 3 and Heritage Drive.
According to Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson, the south metro SWAT team then made its way Hwy. 3 and Heritage to deal with a standoff, as one suspect, the passenger, refused to exit the vehicle. The man was eventually forcibly persuaded to get out and was then arrested.
“The male passenger refused to exit the vehicle, was acting suspiciously, was potentially armed with an edged weapon, and was using drugs and/or suffering mental health issues,” Nelson said. “Officers from the SWAT team responded with a Bearcat/armored vehicle. Chemical irritants were delivered inside the vehicle and officers were eventually able to take the passenger into custody.”
Another man, the driver, who reportedly fled from the vehicle after it came to a stop, was also arrested. Police believe that the driver had a warrant for his arrest.
